Pure, Sounds, rhythms, Words. A single voice. Pure poetry. How refreshing to hear a spoken word performance without rant. Without artifice. This is Mary Blinn: her voice, her words. The poet alone with the emotions, music, kinetics of her art. Wonderful to hear the musicality of her voice again as I had at so many poetry readings before her premature passing in 2015. This collection of Mary Blinn's work expands and augments her legacy as poet/musician/artist, a necessary partner to her posthumous book of selected poems, when word and image run away. From the opening selection "Dinner Dance," the tempo is set. People On The Street Exploding is an inspired performance, a symphony of poetry. Thank you to Robert Blinn, Mary's husband for assembling this CD.

Silver Spikes

Silver Spikes

flash in the dirt-streaked sunlight of

the second-hand shop window.

They glare at the passers-by

waiting to seduce some unsuspecting Dorothy into

clicking those magical heels home. Like a catfish

snagged by the glint of a lure in murky water.

I'm reeled in toward the

Hey babe what's doin' wanna little

razzle-dazzle hot jazz take me dancin' tonight

handsome pop the cork and watch it spray

kick 'em in the air and let fly until

the alka-seltzer sunrise lands us under the bed in

some downtown hotel what say kid

throw some tinsel the old bones and

let's go live a little

Silver Spikes.

They look almost new; barely broken in.

A guaranteed blister on the skin.

Guess I was looking for a

more experienced pair.
